Cutting-edge technology is everywhere
at DFS, and its our customers who benefit most:
- All our trucks come equipped with GPS for precision satellite
positioning. Transmission dishes on the cabs send real-time information
on transport conditions to our information control centre.
- All units are equipped with computers permanently connected
to our network, allowing drivers to receive and transmit data
on the shipments.
- After every trip, our mechanics download and analyze data from
the onboard computer. Whether a worn gearbox or an overheated
engine, nothing escapes their notice. This ensures optimum vehicle
maintenance and follow-up with our drivers.
- An advanced information system supports the business management
and order monitoring processes.
The road transport world has certainly changed. Gone is the time
when all you needed was a good truck and an untiring driver for
good service. Today, a fleet of vehicles must be managed like an
airline company manages airplanes. After every return trip from
California, vehicle maintenance and cleaning as well as the rotation
of driver teams are carefully planned so everything is done in under
four hours. A truck thats not rolling just like an
airplane thats not flying is very expensive. Computerized
management of activities makes it possible to reach the maximum
level of efficiency.
DFS will soon be building an ultra-modern control tower at its
Joliette, Quebec, head office and its not just for
show. Overlooking the DFS facilities, coordinators will have a direct
view of the vehicles circulating around the facilities and will
be able to monitor trucks everywhere on the continent thanks to
giant screens and control monitors. DFS is the carrier for the 21st
century.
